Studying Mathematics at Royal Holloway is not just about collecting skills and information for a future career (though of course that is important). It is about developing a feel for the subject in many different, often small, ways, and becoming a community of people who care about the subject.
We aim to provide an environment in which it is a pleasure to study and will encourage students to follow their strengths and interests in order to achieve the best possible degree.
The compact size of Royal Holloway's Mathematics department helps to promote a friendly and inspiring atmosphere where students are known as individuals.
Staff are always ready to give help and advice and a member of staff is also assigned to students as a Personal Adviser. Personal Advisers help students with any queries or difficulties (academic or otherwise) and guide people through in their choice of courses. Typically, a student's adviser will be the person who writes a student's job references in their final year.
Royal Holloway Maths Department was rated "excellent" during the recent quality assessment (RAE), reflecting the care we take in the design and delivery of our courses.
'What makes the Mathematics department so unique are the people that run it. They are friendly, approachable and no matter how busy they are, they are always willing to help. I hope everyone takes away as much as I have from my time at Royal Holloway. Good luck!'
