Slaughter of the innocents

Ten thousand white doves were today released in yet another celebration of man's ability to wage war. This proud and symbolic gesture, which is certain to end in the deaths of all the doves involved was seen as a fitting reminder of the first day of the Battle of the Somme.

A passing hawk commented 'They don't have a hope. Most of them can hardly fly as they're kept in cages until release. Easy pickings really.' He added that he was looking forward to eating dove again soon at the anniversary of Paschaendale.
